The first rainbow flag was created by Gilbert Baker in 1978 and had stripes. By 1979 is was down to 6. In 2017 a new pride flag was created for the "More Color, More Pride" campaign in Philadelphia. They added a brown and black stripe as a step toward more inclusion and including queer people of color.
