Someone who is demisexual does not experience primary sexual attraction (attraction based on appearance, smell, etc) and is only sexually attracted after getting to know them in some way. How they are attracted differs between individuals. The term was coined in the Asexual Visibility and Education Network Forums in February 2006 to differentiate between allosexuals (those who experience both primary and secondary sexual attraction) and asexuals (those who experience neither). in March 2022 it was added to the Oxford English Dictionary
